That '90s Show: Trendiest Outfits and More!

No one ever believed a spinoff of the classic That '70s Show would ever top the original, but its similarity makes it a stand-alone success! That '90s Show features a new main cast with cameos from the original series (including the Vista Cruiser).

There's one unavoidable update, and that's the fashion trends! This article will walk you through the most notable outfits in each episode and how to recreate them. If you lived through the 90s, you may still have these accessories lying around your home!

1. Jackie's Dress and Blazer Set / Kelso's Brown Suit

What better way to test a pilot than with a Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher cameo? Jackie Burkhart makes her reboot debut in the series pilot, and why wouldn't she splurge on an elegant off-white dress and blazer?

Known for her rich girl attitude, Jackie effortlessly combines feminine and formal for a white-collar appeal. The streamlined, minimalist accents on the dress and jacket are complimented by the black pumps.

And though he appears just minutes away from a mid-life crisis, Michael Kelso also looks pretty spiffy in his brown suit and shoes, baby blue button down and tie!

2. Kitty's Striped Blouse and Jean Skirt

Not all of these looks are reserved just for youth!

When she's not serving food her grandchild and her friends, Kitty Forman is serving looks in her living room with her red top and button-down skirt! This trad housewife look is tied together with a simple braided brown belt and minimalist gold bracelets.

Love it or hate it, everything was denim in the 90s, especially for those middle-aged and older. This all-American trend rose to popularity through widespread accessibility and budget-friendly appeal. It's almost as if this outfit is the fashion equivalent of the farmhouse aesthetic, not to mention the plaid couch in the background that found its way into every living room or basement.

As we'll see throughout the series, stripes are a pervasive pattern not limited to a specific age group or social status that can take even the most conservative jean skirt and add a modern flair.

3. Leia's T-Shirt Dress Combo / Gwen's Ripped Tights

That 90s Show Tights

Some episodes are so jam-packed with fashion trends that it only makes sense to double up! And if there's any style trend that's increased in popularity, it's the Mary Jane style Doc Marten's over white ruffled socks.

While layering clothes over other clothes was overdone in the 2000s, Leia repeatedly demonstrates how pull it off with a button down dress and pastel pink U-neck tee.

On the other hand, this red and white varsity jacket gets a lot of airtime throughout the series and adds a pop of color to an otherwise dark outfit. Gwen rocks the timeless ripped tights and combat boots of the punk and grunge scene, further solidifying her Riot grrrl reputation. And we can't overlook her staple puka shell necklace!

4. Leia’s 4th of July Rave Outfit

Leia's red and white satin bomber jacket is similar to the one we saw in Episode 3, but it's the accessories that make this a 90s style.

The feather boa adds a splash of blue into an otherwise entirely red and white color scheme, and is layered over Mardi Gras beads for extra activity.

What really makes this look scream 90s is the hair styling and accessories. In Episode 4, Leia remakes the classic Princess Leia space buns as popularized by the Star Wars franchise. The messy flair is peak turn of the century pop-punk.

These triangle hair clips found their way into every 90s girl's repertoire, and there were infinite colors and textures to choose from!

Daisy clips haven't been popular with teens in a number of years, but maybe it's time for a comeback!

5. Nikki's Sweater / Gwen's Alternative Garb

Episode 5 is full of cute outfits, which is why it's great to have two in one pic! Nikki is introduced as a less loud, abrasive version of Jackie.

That 90s Show Green Day

There's something so unique about the pink and blue sweater vest and how well it pairs with high-waisted jeans. Not to mention, the elbow-sleeve top underneath is a perfect shade match!

Gwen's Green Day tee, on the other hand, goes without explanation. This shirt is specifically pulled from the Dookie tour, which promoted Green Day's third studio album comprised of popular titles "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around."

Green Day refurbished punk-rock apathy with their catchy pop sound, yet remained ideologically true to the original movement.

Gwen's edgier, more alternative look has retained its popularity ever since. The plaid schoolgirl skirt later reemerged from the depths of Tumblr and into the forefront of the alternative scene.

6. Geometric Vest

That 90s Show Houndstooth Vest

Believe it or not, the next 90s look is another vest! Geometric patterns were a staple of 80s and 90s design, and these patterns are typically found alongside rich color schemes.

The black and white houndstooth is still worn (mostly by those over 30) and is a common pattern in most department stores, but the funky geometric design never shook its retro reputation. This pattern in particular actually appears braided on closer inspection.

How each clothing element is styled plays a huge part in the overall look. Despite the buttoned collar, Brian Austin Green's baggy, untucked swag is key to communicating fun while also maintaining business-casual apparel!

7. Leia's Overalls

That 90s Show Overalls
Pairing the denim with a multi-color striped tee is peak 90s couture, and you've likely seen countless teens and young adults rocking the style to this day!

Leia wore both overalls and ribbed fabric before in the pilot episode, making the set an essential part of her character's wardrobe. This aesthetic was widely adopted not by bloggers on Tumblr, but many an amateur photographer on VSCO Cam.

When recreating this look, it’s important to consider what makes the overalls look so youthful and classic. There’s a thin line between fashion-forward teen and farmer from Ohio, and that line falls somewhere above the knee.

8. Sherri's See-Through Blouse

That 90s Show Sherri Top

It wouldn't be a trend if everyone wasn't trying to get in on it... You guessed it: more florals!

Sherri caught my eye with her paper-bag shorts in Episode 2 and her hot pink bathrobe. Characterized by her turbulent relationship with Fez and free-spirited personality, Sherri's wardrobe choices best reflect her spunky personality.

The see-through nature of the wide, U-neck blouse adds a layer of contrast to accentuate the midsection, while the sleeves add a flowy, bohemian appeal. This is also one of the only times we see jeans--skinny jeans nonetheless--in any color other than blue.

But that's not all! Sherri's half-up, half-down hair is sported by a classic black scrunchie! While there's plenty of accolades to bestow on the hair and makeup departments respectively, we're spared of the less fondly remembered trends like chunky highlights.

9. Leia's Floral Jacket

The penultimate episode of the reboot series further solidifies the floral and pastel themes we've covered so far.

The baby pink jacket features accents of blue, green, and yellow, with the blue shades perfectly matching with the cuffed, mid-waisted skinny jeans. On the bottom, Doctor Marten gets more screentime with a pair of maroon boots.

The hippie garb is also worth an honorable mention, though this woven poncho style is more popular in some regions than in others.

10. Ozzie's Tri-Tone Button-Up

That 90s Show Tommy Hilfiger Button-Up
The 90s were full of fun, tri-tone palettes, which Ozzie showcases with his Tommy Hilfiger button-up.

This pattern is typically found on tracksuits and windbreakers, but wardrobers managed to create a more formal, polished look from the style. In this case, the crisp white is offset with powder purple and navy.

While button-ups usually take on a more masculine feel, the rich color schemes held wide unisex appeal and can easily be matched to any type or shade of pants.
