How The Sims 5 can Restore the Legacy of EA

Though the release date is still pending, the Behind the Sims Summit announcement officially confirming a new installment on the horizon. Though many thought the day would never arrive, there’s been some debate within the Sims fandom over which title reigns supreme: The Sims 2 or The Sims 3.

The exclusion of The Sims 4 is intentional. Expansion Packs and Stuff Packs franchise are where Electronic Arts earns its money-hungry reputation, and without splurging on additional content or surfing sketchy sites to find mods, The Sims 4 is a barren sandbox devoid of content. This is proven by the seasonal markdown price and EA occasionally making the base game free to download. This article will outline everything missing from The Sims 4 and what features should be included with The Sims 5.

Create a Sim

The Sims 4 isn't a terrible game in its own right, but it lacks the depth it claims. TS4 appears to have the best customization options of any title, but as true fans know, EA showed their default hand years prior.

TS3 allows custom color options for hair and skin tone, rather than a preset of options. All TS4 characters vaguely similar in terms of bone structure and devoid of any real charm.

Open World

One of the main attractions to the Sims was the notion of a walkable utopia. TS3 provided a seamless open-world map only to have it obliterated in its successor. Each household lot is sectioned off with an invisible wall, leaving only the option to fast-travel to various locations. A sim living next to a location such as a gym or park will first be sent to the 'manage worlds' screen in order to make the transition. The lack of expansion packs hinders the development of complex storylines, as there's simply not as much for your sim to do. This leads to ever-fragile moodlets deteriorating and sims feeling unfulfilled and even questioning their free will, and who could blame them?

Cars

Unlike in the previous two titles, vehicles in TS4 are only available through user mods, and are stationary object for mere decoration. As far as anyone's concerned, sims teleport from one location to another.

Baby / Toddler Overhaul

In The Sims 4, all babies are born at home by default and cannot be removed from their cribs except to feed or interact with in a stationary position, making them pretty much useless. I don’t think we should expect a wide range of emotions, but they could at least be more portable.

Toddlers were a late addition to The Sims 4 that never seemed to get patched. Those same infants that were once human props learn the walking skill instantly after aging up with almost no crawling practice whatsoever.

Burglaries

We've already discussed the lack of variation within day-to-day life of Sims 4 households and how there's little to actually simulate. While home invasions were way too frequent in The Sims 3, the possibility for random events and crime added a layer of depth to the game.

Conclusion

Rather than adding more content, players would have been satisfied with EA delivering the product as initally promised by patching bugs in a timely manner.

Where to Play The Sims:

While The Sims 4 is available pretty much everywhere, the previous titles are sold through Origin on MacOS and Windows PC or can be purchased in PC disc format.
